Trainspotting & toilet diving

Those who've gone all out and actually read the Irvine Welsh novel (who
appears in the film by the way) will note that the original toilet scene
isn't much like that in the motion picture -- slightly more gratuitously
scatological than most audiences feel comfortable. The first time I saw
the movie -- it opened months and months ago in the UK -- I didn't much
care for the fantasy dreamy Brian Eno-y thing, but subsequent viewings
have endeared the scene to my heart. I don't think it any sort of
un-safe call to suspect a Pynchon influence, nor would it be in any way
an inappropriate or disrespectful act on the part of director Danny Boyle.
