Richard Romeo exlains:
"Must be referring to Operation Market-Garden, late '44, essentially
Montgomery's idea to use airborne troops, British and American, dropped
behind German lines in Holland. Attack bogged down because some SS
Panzer divisions were on R & R, at sites where landing zones were
targeted, unbeknownst to Allied intelligence. Many of the targets were
the same ones Germany used airborne troops for when they invaded the Low
Countries in '40."
Is that the same operation detailed in the book (and later film) A BRIDGE TOO
FAR?
