Steely, bo-beeley,
You don't think LIBRA has "voice"? and I'm apple pie.... You been to NYC,
man, ever hear people talk in the Bronx bro? well, that's voice for you. Now
I'm just saying, if you still think Libra has no "voice"--it does, every
fucking page reeks of it, ways of saying certain things, the click--you
know--just go read DeLillo's article in Paris Review, learn a little
something. That and Pynchon's "Idle dreaming is often of the essence of what
we do. We sell our dreams," now that's the fucking grail,
writing-advice-wise, dig? duh, or if LIBRA doesn't do it, how about Pafko at
the Wall, how Delillo has at least four, maybe more voices going on there,
Jackie Gleason and Co. and his own, weirdly adolescent zing re Cotter Martin.
What do you think "voice" is anyway? Pray tell, mon frere. And Viva Pancho
Villa...all the pinecones of the world--unite!
