I guess I don't want him to do anything but what he wants to do, but I'm
interested in the way some material is recycled. I'm sure M&D wants to outdo
GR, as the conventional wisdom in NYC lit circles seems to be that VINELAND
was a stopgap thing to fulfill a contract and reduce expectations. M&D has
been  THE BOOK for a long time, according to this theory, as GR was THE BOOK
as far back as the end of V.
