David Pelovitz writes about Vineland:
"...that all makes perfect sense in a novel that illustrates
how much the 60's desire to change the world actually did
change the world."

----
I'm wondering how you see the contemporary world of
_Vineland_ affected by the 60's. Not that I wholeheartedly
disagree, I just see much evidence pointing to a different
conclusion. Zoyd's comment to Mucho Maas "Ol' Raygun?
No way he'll ever make president" seems to show what an
insulated reality our heroes are living in. Like political
Annies, the positive change they've been striving for is
always just an election away.

On an unrelated note, did anyone notice the similarities
between the Vomitone's "I'm a Cop" and the title song from
the Swans' "Cop"? (If any obsessive Pynchonites plan to run
out and buy this album based on my, possibly erroneous,
comparison, be warned: this record is, to quote the Trouser
Press, "like banging your head against a wall underwater".)
