Mr. Stanton writes: "I read somewhere years back that the Kenosha Kid was

be a reference to Orson Welles, who was from Wisconsin (?!).

I think it was Richard Porier [sp] in his _Saturday Review_ review of GR who
came up with the Orson Welles hypothesis. And I don't think he gave any
stronger grounds for it than Welles' being from from Kenosha (though he did
concentrate on the book's "cinematic" qualities).
