Pynchon/Lovecraft

Richard Romeo wonders if there is a Lovecraft influence in Pynchon's
sinister otherworldy forces. These forces always struck me as being
more Burroughsian than Lovecrafty, though Providence does get a glanc-
ing mention in GR, I forget exactly in what context. (Providence seen
from the highway?) Could this be a Lovecraft allusion?
Pynchon read Borges, of course, and Borges admired Lovecraft (along
with other second-raters -- GK Chesterton, etc.) So, to sum up --
uhhh, mebbe.
