At one point an R. Crumb scribbling was set to garnish the cover of the
mysterious letters of W.T. Alas that was before the mighty split between
the utterly paranoid Fred Gardner (original editor of this strange collection)
and AVA publisher Bruce Anderson, the Jeffrey Dahmer of North Coast journalism.
Crumb was Gardner's pal from his Maoist Collective days back in the Haight.
When Fred was dumped, Crumb took his "art" with him. Don't fret, however,
even more bizarre artwork his surfaced to take Crumb's place by "M" and
Dr. Droo. If this thing ever gets published.
