Another example I've always loved is the end of the "you know how to 
whistle, don't you" scene in To have and to have not...it depends on my 
knowing something ahead of time about HB and LB, but the cut to Humphrey 
after she's exited shows him, I'm certain, bemused with the actual person 
and not the character...

Baseball great Ted Williams has a well-placed walk-on role in Russell
Banks's _Continental Drift_.  Considering he's a retired ball player
and not a professional character, he gets his lines ("No problem") off
pretty well. His reality reduces the struggling protagonist to tears.
