haven't heard Lotion's disc yet, but for someone associated with Calif., 
I'm surprised He wasn't immediately 'sold on SoCal punk', as in:

All (were Descendents)--the mythology of All and 'the Van' would be 
enough to sell anyone (check out the liner notes of "Hallraker"), never 
mind their redux of the Beach Boys' "Wendy" ("she makes good 
hamburgers")

Bad Religion--"Entropy" and "Television", or anything by them, will prove 
my point
