Ouch!  Gotta disagree with you on that one, P.  Sure the web is getting
flashy.  And sure that draws attention to it ... EVERYONE's attention.  But
it's too powerful to go away, and still it's just a baby.  The trick will be
to keep that power with the people.

I like the COLLEGE OF THE SURF analogy.  But I prefer to see the net
(including the web, e-mail and everything else that moves, no make that LIVES
on it - because web sites live, we move to them) as yet another aspect of
reality,  an alternate plane on which we can choose to function.  We've
projected ourselves collectively in many ways through the ages, (the Tristero
comes to mind, along with shipping lanes and jungle drums) but our media are
always us.  This one comes close to being collective consciousness, plug and
play, and that I find exciting. 

No Borg jokes, please.
