Found a tacky paperback printed in the early to mid-70s (after GR) of
COL49 by Bantam. The cover is this silly "psychedelic-paisley-Peter
Max-Yellow Submarine" thing of a dancing hip and with it gogo girl and a
drummer. Was Pynchon marketed during the 60s and 70s as a "60s"
novelist? In any event, this cover is too funny.
John
I suggested my buddy read Lot 49 on a cross-country trip last year and he
had this "tacky" original cover. Besides thinking the cover kinda a
funny, the thing I most remember about this copy was the blurb in the
beginning (I forget the exact wording), advising readers that this work
is of an Unchristian nature. I believe we were somewhere on the
outskirts of Colorado near Doc Hollidays resting place when I noticed
this-nearby a girl was reading Vineland-I thought it's either the thai
stick we'd been passing around in the bathroom courtesy of Amtrak or like
the song Just my imagination, once again...anyway, I'll give my friend a
call to see if he stills has this copy. John-does yours have this
warning to young, egg-shell minds?
