I have a recollection this may have been answered, but someone asked about
the dust jacket on the orig. hardcover ed. of Lot 49. I read the pb but
happen to have someone else's first ed. handy.

Pub by Lippincott, c1966. A smallish book, 8 1/4" x 5 1/4. The dust jacket
shows a close-up of what could be a few blocks of a cement wall or a
sidewalk, sort of a sandy-tan color, with a white chalk line drawing on it of
the muted horn - very simple, like a kid would draw it. The chalk drawing's
tilting down from left to right and takes up most of the space on the cover.
TP's name is spelled out upper-right in orange, sans serif type with
THE/CRYING/OF/LOT 49 stacked vertically under his last name in the same type,
this time blue.

The best part of the jacket is the back which has a black space blocked out
at the top where the author's picture ought to be. Under this black hole a
couple of quotes about V.

The endpapers inside are nice: brown kraft, with the letters w.a.s.t.e
repeating in a single horizontal line of typewriter type across both pages.

This copy must have been a gift, the price (which must be a hoot, I'll guess
$4.95) on the inside flap has been cut away. Somebody got lucky. A nice
little book.

Jeffrey, with all the details he can muster
