plachazu is Jack Minnich, living in Walnut Creek, CA., a fan (gee, does it
all have to be in third person?) of Melville, Malcolm Lowry, Capt.
Beefheart, the Holy Modal Rounders (Stampfel and Weber appeared on three
Fugs albums, BTW, though all three albums came out of a single recording
session--the albums are The Fugs First album, Virgin Fugs, and Fugs
4/Rounders Score), and even of TRP.

Lately I've been reading Celine, who has often reminded me of Pynchon.
There have been only a few mentions of Celine on this list (I've used
Andrew's search engine to look 'em up) and I don't recall seeing any such
mentions in the Pynchon crit I've seen, so the possible influence of Celine
on TRP may be unexplored territory. Right now I'm reading Celine's _North_
which takes place during the closing days of WWII, and includes a fancy
estate outside of Berlin, full of decadent war refugees ala Foppl's siege
party. -jm
