Pynchon/Lennon

I hope you like _Dhalgren_. I've read it about five times, and occasionally have talked
it up on pynchon-l with an enthusiasm bordering on the hobby-horsical. It's just been
re-issued in a new trade edition (Wesleyan University Press, 1996) with a brief
forward by Wm Gibson, and (as I keep repeating) it deserves more attention than it's
gotten in its first twenty years. There are a couple non-fiction memoirs by Delany
which may help with _Dhalgren_, namely _Heavenly Breakfast_, and _The Motion of
Light in Water_. (The latter of the two memoirs reveals more about Delany's sexual
orientation than I really wanted to know.) Also, I saw one place in another of
Delany's little-known non-fiction/critical books where Delany comes right out and
compares the sales history of _Dhalgren_ with that of _Gravity's Rainbow_. It's not
quite clear to me what motivated him to draw that particular comparison.
                                                                                 -jm
