I realise that this relates to a thread under discussion a few weeks ago, but I've
only just subscribed to this list, and I've been reading the archives
eagerly...
In talking about recurring characters, there's a few references to the titular
protagonist of _V._ that no-one seemed to mention:
* in "Low-Lands", the gypsy dwarf Nerissa refers to "the old woman with the
eye patch who is called Violetta."
* in _The Crying of Lot 49_, Oedipa suggests to herself that she "...might
replace whatever of her had gone away with some prosthetic device" -
which is exactly what V. has done.
