FYI, here's how the Yoyodyne site (http://www.yoyo.com/) explains
(inaccurately) the origin of its name:
Yoyodyne first appeared in Thomas Pynchon's novels The Crying of Lot 49 (a
great book, by the
way) and Vineland. Yoyodyne was a toy company turned failed defense
contractor. Of course, we
identify more with the toy company!
While Pynchon's novels are well worth reading, we actually got our name from
the 1984 Buckaroo
Banzai movie, starring Peter Weller, John Lithgow, and bunches of other
people. In this case
Yoyodyne was the name of the company run by the Red Lectroids, the bad guys.
Of course, we
identify more with the Black Lectroids and Team Banzai....
