A prick? Of the Peter Pinquid or Pierce Inverarity variety?
Actually, I prefer comparisons to Pig Bodine, the Dennis Rod-man
of the Pynchon oeuvre.
Pig's idea, as I understand it, is to piss on pretension. Now, Pig's got
big pants to fill, but I try. Is there a more pretensious writer nowadays
than
DFW...well, perhaps, Brett E. Ellis--but who takes _him_ seriously anymore?
And, in fact, the reference to DFW being a Barnes and Nobles (and, hence,a
fav of the _capo di tutti capi_ over at Cosa Nostra) kind of writer wasn't
an ad hominem attack at all. It's all there, for anyone who knows where to
look. And how.
One might start this quest by closely scrutinizing the past year's worth
of articles in the VV Literary Supplement.
