Inverarity vanitas, I always say. By the way, would anybody be interested to
know what TRP thinks of the whole PC contretemps? (You remember Pynchon? This
here's a song about Pynchon.) Forgive me for quoting from my own work --
which always makes me feel like that creep from Franny and Zooey, Lane
Coutell, right before I go ahead and do it anyway -- but when Spiked! came
out, TRP and I had this to say:

"Along comes Pynchon, just when you thought the next person who weighed in on
political correctness -- waggling fingers miming quotation marks in the air--
ought to get his knuckles broken. Putting the subject of Jones's
now-unfashionable dialect humor into humanely mocking perspective, Pynchon
finds:
"[M]ore than enough material for that interesting subset of folks actively
looking to be offended....this will require the sort of listener who either
wants to wince with
embarrassment or can find in vintage bigotry quaint refuge from the more
virulent forms encountered in our own era."

There's more, all of it very sane. You could look it up. Sorry about the me
part. Suppose I just want you all to know Jules isn't the only guy who ever
published anything about TRP, but does anybody want to interview me and my
old flames? Nooooooo.

Best,
David
