FInal? Thoughts on alt.book.pynchon

Jester;

I'm not so much "against" there being a Pynchon newsgroup as I am simply
in doubt of its need or use.

First of all, as for the "need" for a newsgroup. Though I know of foax
who have email but no usenet access, I would think that anyone
with usenet access would have email access, no? So why not just join
pynchon-l?

As for the "use" issue, I'm finding that most newsgroups eventually become
flooded with spam, flames and inane crossposts. There are very few
newsgroups which I take the time to wade through anymore.

I like it here, on the mailing list. Though pynchon-l foax can get rather
testy at times and flames can erupt, the discussion is intelligent, to the
point and there are no near-infinite levels of embedding to try to figure
out before you can make sense of the post, probably one of the most
annoying aspects of newsgroups.

So if you want to go to the effort of forming alt.books.pynchon, go for
it; but I doubt I'll be a regualr participant.

Good luck.

Joe
