I didn't jump. I arrived at the conclusion on the basis of 10 years of
reading newsgroups and watching other people use them. I doubt that a
Pynchon newsgroup will do anything other than split communication
between the two forums and draw quite a lot of irrelevant crap in the
bargain.

Is it? Not my experience but your mileage may vary.
