Pynchon's so broad-based you can find him in anything, but a quick perusal of
the lyrics to "Transverse City" found two vaguely Pynchonesque verses:

I went walking in the wasted city
Started thinking about entropy
Smelled the wind from the ruined river
Went home to watch T.V.

from "Run Straight Down"

and

I want to live all alone in the desert
I want to be like Georgia O'Keefe
I want to live in the Upper East Side
And never go down in the street
Splendid isolation

from "Splendid Isolation"

Plus, Zevon doesn't smile in either of the pictures of him on the cover.  You
know what that means?  Bad teeth!  Undoubtedly an homage . . .
