Wonder if the "doing" the Kenosha Kid might refer to "doing"
a hoax, or participating in a deception? This is
a big streach, but then I never did the Kenosha Kid...

Not bad, Tom.

To me, the "great achivement" wasn't Welles' radio program per se (heard it again the other night on PBS) or even the "deception" it was purported to have unwittingly created.

Rather it was the latter day myth that just grew and grew about how so many people were deceived by the realism of the performance.

In the first place, it wasn't all that realistic IMHO and contained clues as to its nonrealism all along the way.

Secondly, I have NEVER run into a solitary individual (including
myself) who remembers thinking at the time that the Mercury Theatre production was anything other than theatre.

Pynch could have been picking up on this FINAL, if rather harmless, "hoax". Guess I better reread this week's assignment..
