And his other other great achievement is the magnificently damaged and
incomplete _The Magnificent Ambersons_ (control over which was wrested from
the embattled young filmmaker by the meddling studio). What's left of it is
brilliant and uncompromising ...
Only I haven't seen it in a while, so I'll say more after I get a chance to
review my pirated videotape copy (unless other cinephiles on the list beat
me to it). What I do remember is a key theme about the destruction of
community by technology (in this case, the automobile). A prescient (and
almost Luddite) film.
