Chris Carter/Thomas Pynchon

It's probably just paranoia, seeing connections between my favorite 
things, but _The X-Files_ is an awfully lot like _GR_, sometimes, as 
Richard suggested today.  I mean, Chris Carter seems to have a 
Pynchonesque sensibility, as that Cancer Man episode last week displayed: 
he was trying to come up with some reasonably believable conspiracies 
(tying Cancer Man into the conspiracy to kill JFK made him a lone gunman 
but not a lone actor, importantly) but then just going meta towards the 
middle of the show by having Cancer Man rig everything.  Carter's mocking 
the possiblity of conspiracy while supporting it, just like Pynchon.  
Carter's read his _GR_, at least...
