Of course, this neglects the one "wholesome" relationship in the book, 
that of Jeremy(The Beaver) and Jess, which seems to function as a satire
of an idealized family values love.  Just wondering, though, about Pynchon's
choice of nickname - Beaver - leave it to Beaver?  Which would work, when you
consider that the politics of Leave it to Beaver produce a sterile and 
ultra-conservative "family", much like the "love" Jess and Jeremy share.
