TS and George Formby

     George Formby was, if my memory is correct, a Scottish (?) music hall 
     singer/performer.  Music hall was sort of like American vaudeville.

All right, so who's George Formby?
     
I'd appreciate all kinds of responses because I'm interested in the roots 
and realities of the music of GR, from Slothrop's harmonica to the Kirghiz 
balladeers.
     
In fact, I've always thought some Pynchon freak should make a *Tribute to 
Pynchon* or *Tribute to GR* record/CD, in which all sorts of bands 
interpret Pynchon songs and lyrics.
     
Anybody got any connections with risk-taking record companies?
