This actual announcement from the "Acadame", an electronic summary of
the Chronicle of Higher Education, struck me as Pynconesque enough to
post to the list.

  * THREE PROFESSORS today won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for
their discovery of ball-shaped forms of the element carbon.
The award will be shared by Robert F Curl, Jr., and Richard
    E. Smalley both professors of chemistry at Rice University,
and Sir Harold W. Kroto, a professor in the School of
Chemistry and Molecular Sciences at the University of Sussex.
