<< On Fritz Lang, though not, I think, on TRP: we in London are at this
very moment able to wax epic with a spanking new print of Godard's Le
Mepris, courtesy of the National Film Theatre. >>

Oh, you lucky bastards. I have a question for you: What IS the correct
aspect ratio of that film? It's one of my favorites, seen it a million
times, but have never seen it in a proper version (i.e. on a screen). Gag...

Don't know if this has been discussed before, but Godard, especially in the
Sixties, was probably the closest thing the cinema had to a TRP, imo. The
man could turn a gangster melodrama into screwball comedy, a musical, a
romantic tragedy, or a documentary -- all in the same movie... Equally at
ease with different styles, and able to weave disparate strands together into
a unifiied work of art (unified, if anything, by its very disunity) --
anti-climactic and pastiche-climactic at the same time... Good stuff.

Any thoughts? Or am I beating a long dead horse here?
