Tod Mahony slathers on more Lotion:

Nope; I'll put in another vote for them, at least for _Nobody's
Cool_. I like their melodies, I like their juxtapository wit, I
like the gee-tar timbres, I pretty much like the whole deal. I
can't wait for the friend who's borrowing the record to return it.
And I can sort of see what TRP sees in them: unpretentious though
imaginative rock and roll w/o obnoxious rockstarism. R&r may be one
of the last honorable callings, as his liner notes say, but it's a
lot more so when practiced with equal amounts intelligence 'n'
humility. I'd speculate that this is what draws TRP to Lotion.
After admittedly not paying them any attention until I read of the
Pynchon connection, it's what keeps me drawn to them too.
Now, if he's looking for a few more really obscure bands to adopt,
I'd like to suggest a clever, gutsy, literate, and absolutely unknown
NYC three-piece known as Shanghai Love Motel.
