The Simpsons is the best social commentary currently availble:
It is presented in the guise of an (extra)ordinary cartoon show, so them
censors and such won't notice any subversive messages. It is easily
understood by many age groups. It is also entertaining, allowing the
viewer to just sit back and relax. I have been yelling about this since
the second season when I realised It wasn't just an intelligent
(argualbly the most intelligent thing on our wonderfull box) cartoon. I
actually managed to get my teacher to let my 8th grade class watch the
show during lunch hour (sure I did go to an "alternative type" school,
but it wasn't easy to persuade adults to let kids watch "non-educational"
cartoons). Anyway, future generations will study Groening like
Shakespeare. Oh, I also go to the same college that Groening went to,
The Evergreen State College, yep, I'm bragging (sp?).
