Seem to remember something in Monica (forget her last name)'s 
recent New Yorker piece on Nixon and Clinton. 

With GR always at the back of my mind, I was struck when N.
was quoted as uttering either What? or Wha? in a nontrivial and
probably profane manner. 

Unfortunately I threw out the mag and can't confirm.

Drat.

Anyway, the time period was of course the ninties, if that would be a problem.
