Brian, I hope your copy will enjoy a peaceful retirement on an 
honoured shelf of your library. I recently retired my mid-1980s 
Picador paperback of _V._, the one with a cover that looks like a 
Whole Sick Crew party in progress. A special cover: the ballet dancer 
looks like the ballet dancer I was pursuing at the time, and the chap 
near her with the sheepskin jacket and the curly hair - well, there 
are some old and embarrassing photos from that phase of my life...
