As I recall, Pynchon's essay was written for the paperback edition of "Been
Down So Long . . ." published sometime between 1982-84. I'm certain it
wasn't written for the first edition of the book, which was published in
1966, one week before Mr. Farina's unfortunate death in a motorcycle
accident. Pynchon's introduction to BDSLILLUTM, by the way, ought to be of
some interest to the first segment of the GRGR in light of GR's dedication.
