My translation:

    Children, who will take advantage of any situation, were in the kitchen
    as cook used a spoon to stir up something (toll-house cookies?), 
    and they begged or stole what they could & went to a special place
    to enjoy it.

Much duller, but there's none of the child abuse of earlier posts..
