Is there any way to create a "welcome" message to the P-list with something
along the following, um, lines?

****

Welcome to the Thomas Pynchon mailing list. This is an unmoderated
discussion, but with the publication of Mason & Dixon many of us would
appreciate Spoiler Warnings.

If you comment on Mason & Dixon, please indicate that in your subject
header. Identify the highest page number that you feel relates to your
comments. Omit other information.

As for the body of your message, include the same subject header on the
first line of the body of your message, followed by about ten blank lines.
This will keep it from appearing on email programs with preview windows.

A sample subject header regarding the word "Hats" on page 13 [note: this
is entirely theoretical] would therefore be the dull but efficient

	Subject: M&D 13

The first eleven lines of the message would be the equally dull but
efficient

	Subject: M&D 13

If the content of your message includes anything that might be considered a
Spoiler, we encourage you to warn of its approach and add some more blank
lines to your message to keep it out of the sight of people who might wish
to avoid it.

Thank you for your cooperation. We hope you'll enjoy the conversation.

Murthy, can any message like this be worked into the program? If so, does
anybody want to suggest changes or something else entirely, or nothing at
all?

Wondering,

davemarc
