novel, BTW. Never saw the Cuban film--are there any other similarities? Think it was a
deliberate echo?"
It *is* similar in theme, although Puig's novel (much more than the film) is
also an inquiry into the very nature of sexual identity (with a very obvious
bow to Foucault). Alea, I think, is more interested in some kind of
reprochement between private life and revolutionary responsibity. It's
probably no accident that the film is set in the earlier years of the
Revolution.
