Having grown up bilingual on the Texas/Mexico border I would tend to agree...

But the typical yanqui/gringo perceptions often follow this bit of
advice I got from an acquaintance who had worked in the oil patch
all over Latin America:

"The further south you go, the Mexicans just get weirder!"
