"Jules's" book

Hi all,

I am apparently quoted in the book, and my permission was certainly
not asked. I have relatively low expectations of the privacy of my
messages to Pynchon-L, but I do regret the "wham, bam, thank you ma'am"
aspect of Jules' appearance on the list.  I should have known, though;
his come-on was too outrageous ("psst! Feelthy peectures of Thomas
Pynchon?"), his reactions too flamboyant, his approach in private email
too clumsy. (I didn't save the message, but I distinctly recall
his asking me to tell him all about myself, with the excuse that "he
liked being able to visualize the people he corresponded with." I am
more glad than ever now that I didn't respond to that request.)

All that having been said, however, I have accepted IAM's offer of
a free book, I suppose in partial compensation for the dubious nature
of their use of my posts. I'll consider it a reasonably fair trade
as well as a learning experience.

Penny
