Of colonial capitalization

Hi all,

Since we will be (or are, you lucky ones) reading a whole book in
this style, I was hoping that someone could tell me what rules (if
any) determine what words are capitalized within a sentence written
in 18th century English. Is it "significant" nouns? Verbs? Or is
the capitalization solely at the whim of the writer?

Yours in linguistical-historical ignorance,
Penny
