>Chapter 16-----The Big Cheese, Love, and Angular Momentum
> There is indeed, in the English county of Gloucestershire, a famed
>annual cheese rolling in May, information about which is found in the
>P-list archive for that month.
And it is, indeed, a contact sport. As quoted in THE NEW YORKER 14 Jul
'97, (the issue with the Holt threatens the Boneheads bit), on page 88:
THERE'LL ALWAYS BE AN ENGLAND
[From the London Times]
Seven spectators and 11 competitors were injured
yesterday at the annual cheese-rolling contest at
Cooper's Hill, Brockworth, near Gloucester. The
most seriously injured was a man who suffered head
injuries in a 100ft. fall down the hillside, as he
tried to avoid a bouncing 8lb. Double Gloucester
that had rolled off course. The winners of two races
later found that their cheeses had been stolen.
