I don't know, those internal cops can be pretty tough.  The teaching of
psychiatrist Viktor Frankl, Nazi concentration camp survivor, is
instructive about maintaining freedom in the midst of imprisonment,
torture, indignity -- Frankl discovered how he prevent his captors from
taking away  what he called "the last of the human freedoms", they could
control his environment and his body but they couldn't take away his
ability to observe and decide within himself how it was going to affect
him.
