1913, 16th amendment to the US constitution passed, enabling the 
income tax
     
1919, first meeting of the League of Nations
     
1945, US Aircraft dropped 3,000 tons of explosives on Berlin
     
1949, "The day the music died" Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and The 
Big Bopper were killed in a plane crash in Iowa, enroute to Fargo, 
nonetheless.
