Academic fictions

Wouldn't the list of academic "novels" have to include the monster of them
all, FAUST I & 2?  The good old alchemist had done all the disciplines
before turning to Mephisto for new ones.
	And add in one of my favorites, the Alexandria Quartet.  Durrell's
Darley is a poor struggling teacher before Justine picks him up.  After
she does, I don't recall that he has much time to teach.  But he keeps on
