The two best intros to Lacan are:
1. Zizek: Looking Awry, (and for that matter, The Sublime
Object of Ideology). Zizek is Pynchonian in ways that Lacan is
not. The High/low comic/tragic binaries are taken apart and
retooled, so to speak, in the quadrature of Lacania (SRI and a)
In other words he's smart, funny, and can easily be folllowed.
2. Bruce Fink's book on Lacan is the best straightforward guide
to the theory.
Have you tried the seminars themselves? They are much more
approachable than the enigmatic and purposefully obscurantist
Ecrits. New translation of all of Ecrits due this year by the
way.
