Just yesterday I borrowed a CD from a friend -- "Salty" by the New
Zealand band the Mutton Birds (1994). The track that caught my
attention was called "queen's english". What's the history of this
quote? I tried a net search, but only came up with references to the
song, including this page:

        http://raft.vmg.co.uk/muttonbirds/queen.html

that has some of the lyrics (below) and a sound sample.

On a West Coast Station there was a U.S. Congressman
He was a guest on a talk show on the subject of language
                           And he said.....

"I'm a great one, for giving people their due
But you have to draw the line sometimes
And when I look up ahead I can only see one world
and It's a world without interpreters and phrase books
                              because...

..The Queen's English was good enough for Jesus Christ
and it's good enough for me"
