Others have been explaining it but I'll add a footnote: pop culture 
depicted Hitler as a loony, and tended (and still tends) to make that the 
whole explanation for the horrors of the Third Reich -- thus trivializing 
the reasons and roots of the evil that is Nazism.  I think this is 
encouraged, if not orchestrated, by the interests that I (after Pynchon) 
call "Them."
