Based on the appearance and publication data page of my 2nd ed. 2nd
printing GR, I'd deduce that the first edition stopped printing in or soon
after 1973, and the second edition hardcover coincided with the paperback
release of *Vineland* (the fonts of the words "Gravity's Rainbow" and
"Thomas Pynchon" on the jacket of my 2nd ed. are identical to the fonts
used on the cover of the paperback of *Vineland* I have, and both my GR
and Vineland list Melissa Jacoby as the cover designer).

Not only do I not have faint horizontal lines, I don't even have the
photograph. Oh well. That can't be helped.
