This is the one I have. Bought it on '73 release date at the
Discount Bookstore on Dupont Circle in Washington DC.
Have a vague recollection this store sold mainly paperbound
books (at that time), but maybe I was just being economical.
The cover is not like the dust jacket of the hardbound. The
background is orange and yellow sky, with nary a rocket in sight.
At the bottom there is a narrow dark band suggesting a Wartime
London "skyline" continuing around the spine and the back.
Protruding above the rooftops on both front and back is the same
domelike structure--maybe St. Paul's. No indication of who designed it.
(maybe Christopher Wren--naw)
The printing on front is as follows:
At top in small black lettering following the Viking ship
symbol--A Viking Compass Book $4.95
The title is in blue block letters with black shading.
The author's name is in white. Beneath is Author of
V. and the Crying of Lot 49.
On the spine--most of the same info as on front.
On back--"A screaming comes across the sky . . . ."
then below that--the name and address of the publisher
and SBN number.
Inside, the paperbound will be identical to the cloth
(info on both versions).
