Add me to this criticism:

>Our problem is that Spielberg's film suggests that free market
>capitalism can stop future holocausts, that free market capitalism is
>the best safeguard any nation has against totalitarianism, that the
>war was not initiated, fuelled and milked by free market capitalism
>but by a relatively small bunch of sick fanatics whose better natures
>had been corrupted by a small inexplicably but ineradicably evil bunch
>of Nazi thugs

This was my point as well, although I'm still a good way from putting it so
succinctly. The above does not translate, in any way, IMHO, into "education."
There are plenty of other movies, and, whoa, documentaries and books on this
subject that have a much better chance of educating the Great Unwashed who
bring home Blockbuster everyday (that's a joke, flamers).

And again, davemarc, I'm not blasting Spiel's involvement with Shoah (get
this clear), I'm blasting SL and the media hype which more than forcefully
declared his movie a documentary and standard issue for any grade school. I
agree he's doing something but, one apple can spoil the bunch. Translated:
he's not doing anything worthwhile, if he's getting away with murder also.
This is my estimation of Schindler, as well.

Peace and (real) history,

MantaRay
